Daily journal prompts

Daily journal prompts, one per day: pick a path, read the question of the day and write a few lines. Every answer lights a lantern in your night sky.

Question of the day

…

Today's question is the same one the Lanternly widget shows for this path.

Your sky

0 lanterns

It's dark for now. Your first answer will light the first lantern.

Answers stay in this browser only. We can't see them and we don't send them anywhere.

Daily journal prompts: how it works

There is one question here each day, the same for everyone. Choose a path: Feelings, Growth or Decisions. Read the question and answer however it comes, in one line or a full page. There is no right length.

Every saved answer lights a lantern. Lanterns only add up. If you skip a day or a week, nothing goes dark and nobody counts the gap. The question didn't catch you? Tap "Another question" and the page pulls a random one from the same bank.

What to write in a journal when nothing comes

Start with something small: what happened today and how it felt. One sentence is enough, and the question will show you where to go next. If the words won't come, switch the question or the path. Sometimes Decisions opens what Feelings can't.

If you'd rather write about the good things, we have a separate guide: Gratitude journal: 40 prompts that don't feel forced. And for coming back to a journal after a break, read How to start a journal and keep going without pressure and Why we quit journaling: three reasons and one nobody mentions.

Where these questions come from

This is the same bank as in the Lanternly app: 418 questions. Of them, 200 are about feelings, 110 about growth and 108 about decisions. The question of the day is picked by the day of the year, by the same rule as in the Lanternly widget. So the page and the widget show the same question for the same path.

You can download your answers as a file or erase them. They live only in your browser, so clearing the site's data will erase them too.

The same thing, with Luna

In the Lanternly app, Luna, a small cat, asks the questions herself. You can answer with text, voice or a photo. Entries stay on your devices and sync through your own iCloud.
