Wheel of life

Wheel of life: a life balance wheel online

The wheel of life puts eight areas of your life on one circle, from health to creativity. Move each slider from 0 to 10, not as things should be but as they feel today. The segments fill from the centre out, and you can see where there is more light and where there is less.

0 means almost no light in that area, 10 means plenty. The first number that comes to mind is usually the most accurate one.

The wheel runs in your browser. Snapshots are kept only here and are never sent anywhere.

How to fill in the wheel of life

Rate each area on its own, by feel. Don't compare yourself with anyone or think about how much you are supposed to have. If work feels like a 4 right now, put 4: the wheel is a snapshot of one day, not a verdict on your life.

Do it quickly, in a couple of minutes. If you weigh every number for long, it is easy to start answering the way things ought to be rather than the way they are.

The 8 wheel of life categories

These are the same eight areas as the balance wheel in Lanternly. Some wheels use 6 or 12 areas; the idea is the same.

  • Health: sleep, energy, your body.
  • Relationships: family, friends, a partner.
  • Work: your job or studies, whatever fills your day.
  • Finances: money, and how calm you feel about it.
  • Rest: time when nothing is expected of you.
  • Growth: what you are learning and reaching for.
  • Home: where you live and how it feels to be there.
  • Creativity: things you make simply because you want to.

What to do with your wheel

You don't have to fix the quietest area straight away. Look at it and ask whether you want more light there right now. Sometimes the answer is no, and that is an answer too.

If you do, pick one small step for the week. In a month, fill in the wheel again: the old snapshot shows up as a dotted line, so you can see what has shifted.

The wheel of life is a way to look at yourself from a little distance. It isn't a test or a diagnosis.

The balance wheel in your journal

With Lanternly+, wheel snapshots are saved with a date next to your entries, and Luna notices which areas sound quieter.
